Esteemed Zen master Hanh presents his approach to achieving a state of mindful awareness and inner peace, and provides strategies and exercises intended to help people awaken to the present moment. The selection of John Lee as narrator proves surprisingly perfect. Though there may be an initial disconnect in hearing Lee’s deep, British-accented voice read the words of a Zen Buddhist from Vietnam, listeners will be won over very quickly. Despite his projective voice, Lee ably captures the calm and peaceful nature of Hanh’s prose. Additionally, Lee maintains an emotional coolness that mirrors the author’s writing and embodies his beliefs. Given the skill of Lee’s performance, listening to the audiobook may prove more compelling and enlightening than reading the print edition. A Beacon paperback.
